1881 Three Cent Nickel, VF, Very Fine, RPD-001, VP-002, Strongly Repunched "88". This is one of the more underrated varieties in the Three Cent Nickel series. NGC will certify this variety, and it currently shows a population of only (3) examples in all grades. PCGS does not recognize this RPD, but it does certify another RPD for 1881, which is not nearly as strong in terms of the remnants of the repunched digits. This is Flynn-Fletcher's RPD-001, which is VP-002. This variety is seldom offered for sale in any condition.
